“Everybody loves food, and everyone loves affirmation.”

Those wise words are courtesy of Chef Jimmy Lee Hill. They were delivered in a thoughtful new profile of “Coldwater Kitchen” star in the National Culinary Review, a publication of the American Culinary Foundation.

The culinary program at Lakeland Correctional Facility that provides the spine for the “Coldwater Kitchen” documentary is the focus of the NCR story, which delves into the course’s beginnings and Hill’s overarching philosophy.

“There isn’t often a lot of good affirmation being spread around in the correctional facility,” Hill says in the story. “So, when someone is doing the right thing or they prepare a great dish, I tell them. If I persistently repeat that they are excelling in class, the more they hear it and the more they believe it and continue to do well.”
