“Coldwater Kitchen” is finally ready to hit the big screen in its home state!

There are three ways to catch the film at Freep Film Festival, which arrives April 26-30.

  • The film’s Michigan premiere happens on the festival’s Opening Night at the prestigious Detroit Film Theatre at the Detroit Institute of Arts. Tickets are on sale now for the event, scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 26. Buy tickets here.
  • In partnership with Frame restaurant in Hazel Park, the festival is hosting three Dinner & Movie events that will highlight the kitchen skills of the documentary’s stars. Chef Jimmy Lee Hill, whose culinary program is the heart of the movie, will cook a sumptuous meal with the assistance of two of his former students, Dink Dawson and Ernest Davis, both of whom are featured in the movie. The April 29 event is sold out, and a few tickets remain for Sunday, April 30. We’ve just added a third showing scheduled for Friday, April 28. Purchase tickets and get more info about the menu here.
  • For the length of the festival, the film will be available for at-home streaming for Michigan residents only. Virtual tickets can be purchased here.

“Coldwater Kitchen” made its world premiere at the prestigious DOC NYC film festival in November 2022. The largest documentary-focused festival in the U.S., DOC NYC featured both in-person and virtual screenings of “Coldwater Kitchen.”
